180G reissue Akarma – AK 111 - Early 70s UK project band led by guitarist Ray Russell. The Running Man were a trio with the known guitarist/bassist Ray Russell, vocalist/organist Alan Greed (Harsh Reality, Rock Workshop) and vocalist/drummer Alan Rushton (Ray Russell Quartet, Rock Workshop). They released only an album in 1972 on Neon, which recording was supplemented by Harry Beckett on trumpet and flügelhorn and Gary Windo on tenor sax. Their music is an interesting mix of hard rock, progressive and jazz similar to Patto. A classic example of the creativity of 70s british underground scene.

UK Acme – ADLP1038 - reissue - British rock band from London from the late 1960s. Originally called The Apaches, later renamed to The Drag Set and eventually called The Open Mind. The Drag Set, a mod band, changed their name to the Open Mind in late 1967 to reflect the non-judgmental receptiveness of the psychedelic era. After appearing at London's legendary venues like Middle East, the UFO Club, the Electric Garden (supporting Pink Floyd on opening night!), and The Marquee (opening for The Electric Prunes), where they were sometimes fronted by a pre-Yes Jon Anderson, boxing impresario Benny Huntman promised them a deal with Philips on the condition that his son, Roger, was installed as their manager. Un album was recorded in the spring of 1969 with Walker Brothers/Dusty Springfield producer Johnny Franz, but the band's greatest achievement came with the druggy "Magic Potion", a post-album single (August 1969) that was overseen by former Four Pennies member Fritz Fryer. The Open Mind disbanded in 1973; its members wanted to move into jazz-influenced music, but The Open Mind was too well-known as a psychedelic band. The band members (minus Phil Fox) went on to form Armada, which lasted about three years but did not release any recorded material.

2LP gatefold cover ITA reissue - Akarma – AK 084/2 - Hard Rock/Pop/Psychedelic band formed in New York. Arising out of adolescent garage band the Primitives, which played primitive covers of British Invasion tunes, the New Primitives came together in New York City in 1966, originally composed of a group of high school friends: Ray Rifice (guitar), Tommy Nikosy (guitar), Rob Buckman (drums), and Mike Garrigan (vocals). Soon, the band increased to a group of five with the addition of bassist/organist Gus Riozzi. They kept a busy performance schedule throughout the next few years when their high school commitments allowed it. In 1968, Rifice left the band to attend college, but at about the same time, former '50s crooner turned manager Johnny Mann saw the band live and promised to get them a recording contract. Philip Polimeni replaced Rifice on lead guitar, and the New Primitives became Majic Ship. Mann introduced the band to the Tokens, who produced their first single, "Night Time Music." It became a local hit, even gaining the band some national airplay, as did a second single, "Hummin." After much touring and a couple more singles, Majic Ship found their way to a studio to record their self-titled debut album in the summer of 1969. Majic Ship melded hard rock, pop, and psychedelia in a way similar to fellow New Yorkers Vanilla Fudge. The band continued on for the next couple of years with plans to record a second album, but those plans were nixed when the band's shared house in Staten Island burned to the ground in 1971, taking with it virtually all their recording equipment and instruments. Without any insurance, the band members called it quits.

Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, the band played with touring acts such as Spirit, Steppenwolf, ZZ Top, Janis Joplin, Canned Heat and Steve Miller. Austin psychedelic bands contemporary to Shiva's Headband included the 13th Floor Elevators and The Conqueroo -
